Subject: Fills and effects

Hi I want to be able to apply a tree like fill. I have created a map in AI (CS4) and there are some areas that I would like to fill with a unfiform fill that looks like trees. I wonder if my best bet is to take my file into photo shop? I could use the effect of Grain with a clumped or contrasty but would love to know the easiest way to do the job I could draw individual trees........what do you think?
